The BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo

BMW has brought another world first to the UK with the launch of the new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo. First shown as a concept car at the Geneva Motor Show in March, this new BMW unites the elegance of a saloon and the functionality of an estate or SAV with modern design, a luxurious interior and a high standard specification. The result is a vehicle that can accommodate and adapt to any personal and lifestyle requirements.

Generously proportioned
While very much the first of its kind, the new BMW 5 Series Gran Turismo exudes a sense of instant familiarity. The front profile features the latest interpretation of the timeless BMW kidney grilles, while the frameless doors (the first on a four-door BMW) and descending roofline give the car a coupé-like silhouette. The interior is generously proportioned, with a luxurious ambience. The raised seating and impressive headroom (equal to that of a BMW X5) make access in and out of the car easy, and give the driver and passengers a better view of the road and their surroundings. The large panoramic sunroof, fitted as standard, floods the interior with light, adding to the spacious, opulent feeling.

Maximum flexibility
With its long wheelbase, both front and rear seats offer extensive head, leg and elbow room. Two seating arrangements are available: the SE model with three seats in the rear and the Executive model with two individual rear comfort seats. When the rear seats are positioned for greatest comfort, the rear legroom rivals that of the new BMW 7 Series. Moving the seats forward for maximum luggage space provides the rear legroom of a BMW 5 Series Saloon. With the rear seats folded, the car has a 1,700 litre luggage capacity, comparable to that of a BMW X5. The dual tailgate provides easy access to everyday items via the smaller boot lid, which prevents passengers being exposed to the elements, and the larger tailgate opens fully for more sizeable items.

Fuel efficiency
Customers can choose from three engine variants: 550i, 535i and 530d. Thanks to BMW EfficientDynamics technologies, the 530d model achieves 0-62mph in 6.9 seconds and 173g/km C02 emissions. The drive is everything you’d expect of a BMW. Together with optional Adaptive Drive, Drive Dynamic Control enables the driver to adjust driving dynamics, from long-distance comfort to sport and highly responsive; and a new eight-speed automatic transmission, standard on all models, further contributes to overall performance and efficiency.

Impressive specification
As befits its name, the 5 Series Gran Turismo features an impressive standard specification including Dakota leather upholstery, metallic paint, four-zone air conditioning, panoramic sunroof, USB audio interface, ambient lighting and heated front seats. Optional equipment includes BMW Professional rear seat entertainment and a range of driver assistance systems such as Lane Departure Warning, Head-up Display and BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Recognition.
